Continue reading to learn more about these effective services.

What Are Inlays and Onlays?

Inlays and onlays are similar to traditional dental fillings and help to treat tooth decay and damage. They are a stronger and longer lasting option compared to traditional fillings that treat issues.

They are molded to the individual tooth for a custom and secure fit. Inlays are used to bond to the center of a tooth while onlays help to cover more surface area on top of a tooth.

What Are the Benefits?

Inlays and onlays are effective while they do not change color over time and do the best to preserve the tooth’s structure. They are easy to clean and do not change the size and shape over the years.

What is the Procedure?

An inlay or onlay procedure will typically be performed in two visits. The first visit will consist of eliminating and decay or damage from the affected tooth and then preparing it for the restoration. Your dentist will take an impression or mold of the tooth and have it sent to the lab. The final inlay or onlay can be made of gold, porcelain, or resin materials. During your second appointment, the dentist will place the final restorations and check on the bite with the new fit.
