When it comes to dental treatments, some are far more well known than others. Ask a patient what a cavity, implant or even bridge is and they most likely can tell you, however when it comes to inlays and onlays, they tend to be far less known. Today, Steve Horne, DDS is covering dental inlays/onlays and everything patients should know about them!
A dental inlay (also sometimes referred to as an “indirect filling”) is a restoration which is used to repair an area on the chewing surface of a tooth within the cusps (outer edges) of the affected tooth. A dental inlay is usually recommended when a tooth has extensive damage that cannot support a dental filling but does has the strength to not warrant a dental crown.
At the practice of Steve Horne, DDS we design our dental inlays to match with your natural tooth, blending perfectly with the rest of your smile.
A dental onlay is a restoration that is used to repair an area on an affected tooth which has extended beyond the cusps (outer edges) of the affected tooth. Dental onlays are recommended when an inlay will not suffice but a dental crown is not necessary either.
At the office of Steve Horne, DDS our dental onlays are also designed to blend perfectly with your smile, no one will even notice you’ve had treatment!
Unlike other Encinitas dental practices, at our dental office we can fabricate both inlays and onlays in-office while you wait. Using CEREC technology we can create a 3D impression and fabricate your restoration in just one appointment. Once the tooth has been completely prepared, the restoration is then bonded directly to the affected tooth.
Think that your smile could benefit from dental inlays or onlays in Encinitas, CA? Schedule a consultation with Steve Horne, DDS today, we’d be happy to evaluate your smile to determine if our onlays/inlays are the right option for restoring your smile.
