Inlays & Onlays

Do you have a tooth that is damaged due to decay or trauma? With dental inlays and onlays from Steve Horne, DDS, in Encinitas, CA, you can restore your tooth back to full health and function! Onlays and inlays are restorative treatments often used to repair teeth damaged by decay or physical injury. For patients that have too much damage for a tooth-colored filling but not enough damage for a dental crown, inlays and onlays can be a perfect option, protecting from further damage while adding more strength to the affected tooth.

What is a Dental Inlay?

A tooth inlay is a restorative treatment option that is laid into the patient’s tooth. Damage that is within the outer ridges of your teeth can be restored using an inlay. Inlays are also often used when direct fillings are damaged and need to be replaced.

What is a Dental Onlay?

Similar to their inlay counterparts, an onlay is a restorative treatment option. Unlike inlays, however, onlays can be used for a larger area of damage as they are laid over teeth instead of inside.

Our Team

Inlays and Onlays Procedure

For dental inlays and onlays, the procedure is similar; first, the affected tooth will be prepared for the treatment. Digital images will be taken to create a 3D model using our CEREC system. Once the restoration has been completed, the inlay or onlay will be bonded to the tooth.
